Black Desert MMO character creator released as standalone game

Korean MMO Black Desert, is set to finally arrive in the west sometime later this year, with the last beta opening up in February for those who pre-order specific packages. In the mean time though, the developers have released the game's character creation module for free. Considering Black Desert's customisation system has been hailed by many as the best in the world, it will be interesting to see what people come up with.

We first wrote about Black Desert back in 2014 when it first launched in Korea, where it's received a number of accolades for its seamless world and high-fidelity visuals. However it's the character creator that has received the most press, as the people it helps create are not only astoundingly detailed, but heavily customisable too.

Bone structure can be altered, hair colour and placement, facial expressions, fullness of muscles, flesh and bone. All of it is tweakable and it can lead to some amazingly lifelike creations, as well as some bizarrely less so. Some attempts at recreating celebrities in the engine have been rather successful in the past too.

There is a point to playing around with the engine though, beyond just seeing what strange ‘people' you can create, because when the game is made available in February or later on in its full capacity, you'll be able to import your custom creations straight into it. This gives you extra time to play with settings at your pleasure, knowing you have enough space to touch on all the options, not just quickly blast through them to get to the game.

Black Desert's beta launches on 18th February, with a final release on PC later this year (thanks PCG)

KitGuru Says: That's the only difficult thing with editors like this. When you buy a new game and want to get playing, often it can become tiresome fiddling with character creation, especially if it's highly detailed. Now though you can take your time with Black Desert and get everything ready.
