Sony may launch an Xperia Z5 with Snapdragon 820 in September

It looks like Sony might be planning to launch its next flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z5, in September this year. Better yet, it may include Qualcomm's next flagship mobile ship, the Snapdragon 820, which will take over from the Snapdragon 810 and hopefully take care of the pesky heat issues that came along with it.

Sony only just launched the Xperia Z4 recently in Japan, which is also known as the Xperia Z3+ here in the UK (confusing we know), unfortunately, Sony has noted that the device suffers from heat issues stemming from the Snapdragon 810, although it has tried to patch it up with software.

Now according to sources speaking with Technodify, Sony is preparing to launch the Xperia Z5 in just a few months time, equipped with a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM and a fairly beefy 4500mAh battery. Apparently the design of the device will mostly remain unchanged, although it will apparently come with a fingerprint sensor.

Android M is set to bring native support for biometric sensors to the OS but that won't be arriving until October, or possibly later depending on how long it takes Google to launch its next Nexus smartphone, after all, last year's model was significantly delayed following its announcement. If the Xperia Z5 comes with a fingerprint sensor, then Sony will likely make getting Android M on to the smartphone a priority.

Right now this is all rumour as the source isn't particularly well known and we don't know exactly who Technodify spoke to in order to obtain this information, so take everything with a pinch of salt.

KitGuru Says: Honestly flagship smartphone hardware has become incredibly easy to predict over the last few years, the only company to throw us a curve ball recently is Samsung, after it ditched Qualcomm in favour of its own chip for the Galaxy S6 but even that was squandered due to early leaks and rumours. Are any of you currently using a Sony Xperia smartphone? Thinking about upgrading this year?
