MSI launches GTX 1080Ti Gaming TRIO

Since Nvidia’s GTX 10-series first began rolling out, MSI has primarily been sticking to dual-fan coolers for most of its custom cards. We saw that change earlier this year with the GTX 1080Ti Lightning Edition, which came with a triple fan cooler and now, MSI is adding another triple fan custom card to its lineup with the MSI GTX 1080Ti Gaming TRIO.

The Gaming Trio is similar stylistically to the other GAMING series graphics cards. The ribbed design on the face plate is still there but now, rather than having half the card be red, it is predominantly black with some silver around the middle fan. There are RGB lights on the card rather than just red lights, so it should fit in to a wider range of themed builds. The lights are customised using MSI’s ‘Mystic Light’ tool.

The PCB for this card is identical to the rest of the GAMING series. However, there are some obvious upgrades, such as the three Torx 2.0 fans, rather than just two. The design also implements a new ‘wave curved cooling system’, which increases the effective heat dissipation area by 10 percent.

While the Gaming TRIO may be a cooling upgrade, that won’t necessarily translate into higher out of the box speeds. The Gaming X TRIO launches with the same clock speeds as the regular GTX 1080Ti Gaming X. The launch price for the MSI GTX 1080Ti Gaming TRIO is going to be around 850 Euros.

KitGuru Says: MSI’s Twin-Frozr cooler has always been very good, so it will be interesting to see how the jump to Tri-Frozr improves things. Are any of you currently shopping around for a GTX 1080Ti? What do you think of the new Gaming TRIO design?
