Intel Core i7-11800H faster than AMD Ryzen 7 5800H according to benchmark

A new Intel Tiger Lake CPU benchmark has appeared online. This time around, we get a look at the performance up the Core i7-11800H, which appears to be faster than AMD's competing Ryzen 7 5800H, at least on Geekbench.

The first Geekbench 5 entry of the Intel Core i7-11800H was spotted by @Benchleaks, but more entries have made their way into the database since then. As per these entries, the Intel Core i7-11800H is an 8C/16T CPU featuring a base clock of 2.3GHz, a boost clock of 4.6GHz, 10MB of L2 cache, and 24MB of L3 cache.

In Geekbench 5, the Intel Core i7-11800H garnered single-core scores ranging from 1,400 to 1,537, while multi-core scores range from 7,727 to 8,393. Compared to the competing Ryzen 7 5800H, Intel's upcoming Tiger Lake CPU brings up to 13 percent more performance in single-core tests and up to 17 percent more performance in the multi-core test.

If we go a step further and compare the Core i7-11800H to AMD's Ryzen 9 5900H, which features the same core count and TDP as the Core i7, then Intel offers roughly the same performance in the single-core test, but loses by an average of 7 percent in multi-core.

Laptops featuring 6-core and 8-core Intel Tiger Lake processors are expected to begin shipping in Q2 2021.

KitGuru says: It looks like Intel's higher-end Tiger Lake CPUs will be a good match for AMD's Ryzen 5000 series in laptops. Are any of you thinking about getting a new laptop this year? Will you be choosing Intel or AMD?
