AMD rolls out FSR 3 and Fluid Motion Frames to compete with DLSS 3

AMD's FSR 3 upscaling technology has officially arrived. Late last week, two games were updated to showcase the feature – Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum. Both titles now have FSR 3, allowing users to jump back in and put it to the test. A key component of the FSR 3 launch is the introduction of Fluid Motion Frames, AMD's answer to Nvidia's Frame Generation tech, found in DLSS 3 supported titles.

FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.0 is the latest version of AMD's upscaling technology, and it's already available on Forspoken (version 1.22) and Immortals of Aveum (version 1.0.5.0). To play these games with FSR 3 enabled, you'll need to update your game and have at least an AMD Radeon RX 5000, Nvidia RTX 20, or an Intel Arc A7 GPU. However, to run FSR 3 with Fluid Motion Frames, the integrated Frame Generation component, you'll need a Radeon RX 7000 series GPU.

Due to how it has been developed, Fluid Motion Frames is a separate component of FSR 3. As such, games that do not support FSR 3 can be played with Fluid Motion Frames enabled via Adrenalin software or using HYPR-X. Note that only AMD can enable game support for Fluid Motion Frames, as this is done at the driver level. Additionally, AMD's Fluid Motion Frames launch is considered a preview version and is not yet in its final form, so issues are to be expected.

The list of AFMF-supported games includes 20 titles:

  • A Plague Tale: Requiem
  • Borderlands 3
  • Control
  • Dead Space
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Dying Light 2
  • Far Cry 6
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo
  • Hitman 3
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Shadow Of The Tomb Raider
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Starfield
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
