AMD is set to unveil the first RDNA 3 graphics cards later this week, but we may already have a sneak peek at what's to come. New pictures claim to show the new AMD reference design cooler for the RX 7900 XT. 

In the pictures shared by HXL, we see what appears to be a Radeon RX 7900 XT/XTX on top of the current Radeon RX 6900 XT. Here, we can see the changes AMD has made to the shroud, with the upcoming graphics being slightly longer and with a more wavy design. Unlike the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which only got a black variant a few months after release, the Radeon RX 7900 XT/XTX seems to have a black shroud by default.

In the second photo, where we can see the new heatsink, the Radeon RX 6900 XT is the one on top. The Radeon RX 7900 XT/XTX has the bigger heatsink, as it's longer and taller. That could be due to a higher TDP (Radeon RX 6900 XT had a 300W TDP). Speaking of power, you should be able to see the two 8-pin power connectors, suggesting the TDP should be less than 375W (2x 8-pin + PCIe interface). Moreover, adding the red accent to the three fins on the right side is a nice touch to the overall design.

The lack of a backplate and the red PCB on the graphics card shown in the pictures leads us to believe this is a prototype. We'll know for sure in a couple of days when AMD goes live with its RDNA 3 launch event.
