CS:GO breaks records with 1.8 million concurrent players

The success of CS:GO has ebbed and flowed over the years, with the game hitting a high of 1.3 million concurrent players back in April 2020. This remained the game’s peak up until earlier this year when CS:GO once again began to climb the ranks. Now, the free-to-play FPS is standing strong with over 1.8 million concurrent players.

As viewable on the Steam Charts, Counter Strike: Global Offensive broke its previous concurrent user record, with a total of 1,804,106 players flocking to the game yesterday. At the time of its peak, CS:GO managed to amass a total concurrent player count which surpassed the next 5 games combined – an impressive feat indeed.

Of course, the sudden growth witnessed by CS:GO undoubtedly has to do with the impending release of CS:GO 2. Furthermore, the figures were likely aided by the upcoming Counter Strike Major Championships set to take place from today until the 21st of May.

Counter Strike has always been pretty big, but with the current rate of growth the game has seen, and the impending release of CS:GO 2, it is safe to say that the decade-old FPS is having a second renaissance.
