Latest Steam client drops support for Windows 7, 8 and macOS 10

As we enter 2024, it's becoming increasingly clear that gamers still on Windows 7 or 8 must upgrade their OS. Steam's official support for these outdated operating systems ended on January 1st, but users could still install new versions of the client. That changed with the latest version released this month.

For those running a Windows 7/8 system, your Steam client will no longer receive automatic updates. Microsoft ended support for both operating systems in 2023, and slowly, third-party companies have also begun dropping support as well. This also means these platforms do not support the latest DirectX libraries, and users face limited compatibility with modern graphics drivers. For gamers, this makes running older operating systems less viable.

For those committed to improving their gaming experience, the logical choice is to upgrade to Windows 11. Alternatively, a shift to Linux could also be a solution.

The latest Steam client also dropped support for macOS 10.13 or 10.14. You can check the rest of the update notes here.
