Multiple expansions still planned for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red made great progress with Cyberpunk 2077 over the last year. Updates were slow, but Patch 1.5 and the next-gen launch delivered on a number of promises and perception of the game's quality has begun to shift. Now, CD Projekt Red has reaffirmed plans for multiple expansions.

While we initially assumed Cyberpunk 2077 would have two expansions like The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has only ever confirmed that we'll get one. Now, it seems that the game may get multiple expansions after all. During a Twitch stream recently (via The Gamer), Cyberpunk 2077 quest director, Pawel Sasko, explained that while he can't say anything about future plans, he can “assure you that we are working on expansions”.

At least one of these will be a story expansion, potential spoilers for which have already been datamined through Cyberpunk 2077's patches. The second expansion could be another story expansion, or it could be a multiplayer mode. Cyberpunk 2077 was initially going to have its own multiplayer spin-off, but that was cancelled after the single-player game's rocky launch. In the months since, new references to a Cyberpunk multiplayer project have been spotted.

Aside from upcoming content, CD Projekt Red is very pleased with the reception to Patch 1.5 and the next-gen console launch for Cyberpunk 2077. No announcements have been made yet, but the first expansion reveal should take place later this year. CD Projekt Red has also begun working on its next major RPG – a new Witcher game based on Unreal Engine 5.
