Skull & Bones screenshots leak, game quietly delayed again

While Skull & Bones was finally due to release in November 2022, Ubisoft eventually pulled the plug, delaying the game once again. The new plan was to have the game released ‘early' in Ubisoft's current fiscal year, but as it turns out, the game was quietly pushed back further.

The new fiscal year began on April 1st, but Ubisoft recently confirmed to investors that the game will not be coming out during the first quarter, meaning the game won't be coming out until later this summer, at the earliest. Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, also confirmed to investors (via PCGamer) that the team is currently “doing lots of playtests and research with external partners”.

Separately over on Reddit, someone has leaked several screenshots of the game in action, claiming to be in contact with someone actively working on the game. According to their source, who provided the screenshots, the game may be delayed even further, pushing its release out of 2023. There is also some concern that the game will just be cancelled after its long-troubled development cycle. However, it is worth noting that cancelling the project could cause additional headaches for Ubisoft, as a grant from the Singapore government partially funded it.

Skull & Bones will likely be shown once again during Ubisoft's upcoming summer games showcase, during which we'll get new looks at the publisher's upcoming slate of games, which includes the likes of Assassin's Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and more.

KitGuru Says: At this point, do you think there is any chance of success for Skull & Bones? Is there anything Ubisoft could show with this game that would make you interested in playing it once it lands? Ultimately, if you are interested in multiplayer pirate adventures, Sea of Thieves has been around for years and still remains fun to this day – as long as you have a couple of friends to group up with.
