In recent weeks, there has been growing evidence that Ubisoft plans to return to Steam. This week, Ubisoft confirmed exactly that, announcing plans to put games on the leading PC gaming platform once again, starting off with Assassin's Creed Valhalla. 

Back in 2019, as Epic Games was building its own store and offering significantly better revenue share rates to developers, there was a lot of discussion around how much of a cut Valve should be taking from Steam sales. Valve did make some changes, giving developers a better revenue split after selling a certain amount of copies, but this was not enough to bring Ubisoft back at the time.

Ubisoft didn't explain exactly why it is returning to Steam now, but it likely has everything to do with customer reach. Steam is still the biggest PC gaming platform despite increased competition, and while the Epic Games Store has grown, Steam continues to be the go-to option for most.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be the first game to launch on Steam, arriving on the 6th of December. After that, Ubisoft will also bring over a few other titles, like Anno 1800 and Roller Champions. Upcoming games like Assassin's Creed Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora should release on Steam on day one.

KitGuru Says: After three years off the platform, Ubisoft games will soon be back on Steam. These games will still require Ubisoft Connect though, so the move back to Steam won't be a completely seamless experience.
