Android 6.0 Marshmallow will launch next week

Google just announced the new Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 smartphones last night so as you would expect, this also means that the latest version of Android will be available very soon. Google announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow earlier this year with a slew of new features, since then it has been in beta and now, it will officially launch next week.

Obviously Google's own Nexus devices will be the first to get the update, while other device manufacturers will have to sort out updating their own devices over the next few months. Certain mobile carriers can also slow down device updates so you will need to look up a date for your specific device or go the custom ROM route if you just can't wait.

Android Marshmallow doesn't offer much in terms of visual changes, but it does provide a lot of background feature improvements. One big new feature is called ‘Doze' which will help save battery life by shutting down processes when the device hasn't been in use for a certain amount of time.

App permissions have been tweaked around and finally, there is a new feature called ‘Now on Tap', which lets the Google search engine look within apps to bring you more information about what is on the screen at that moment in time.

KitGuru Says: With Android Marshmallow becoming officially available next week, we will likely start to hear plans for other manufacturer devices to get the update. There will be more stable ROMS available as well for those that like to customize their devices a bit more.
