While HTC is mostly making headlines with its virtual reality headset these days, the company still has a strong presence in the Android smartphone market. We have been hearing murmurs that HTC is currently signed on to build multiple Nexus devices for Google, perhaps for several years, but this week, we got a little bit more information about what's in-store for 2016.

According to Evan Blass (formerly known as EVLeaks), HTC is currently building a pair of Android N devices for Google, internally known as the Nexus M1 and Nexus S1.

Google has accelerated its plans for Android this year, with Android N launching surprisingly early, with a consumer release date set for the summer. Google is also rumoured to have plans to roll out stock Android to third-party smartphones via an ‘opt-in' feature, which would finally give the company that extra degree of control that it needs to fight fragmentation.

While we only know so much about Android N and Google's plans for the year so far, Google I/O is coming up next month, at which we will likely hear more about Android N (including its final name). We could potentially see HTC's two Nexus devices pop up too.

KitGuru Says: There are plenty of reports floating around indicating that Google is changing its approach to Android and Nexus devices this year, so it will be interesting to see how that turns out following on from I/O next month. What would you guys like to see change with Android this year?
