Borderlands is making a comeback, this time for VR

It has been years since the Borderlands series was last in the spotlight. We’ve known that Gearbox has been planning Borderlands 3 for quite some time but it looks like before we get around to that, we’ll be taking a trip back to Borderlands 2. This week, Gearbox announced Borderlands 2 VR, which will be launching later this year.

Borderlands was arguably one of the first big games to get the ‘looter shooter’ genre off the ground. Now, you’ll be able to shoot your way through Pandora in virtual reality. Borderlands 2 VR will be launching on the 14th of December, initially for PlayStation VR but the game could come to other platforms a little later down the line.

Borderlands 2 has been completely reworked for virtual reality. The new version will include a new mechanic called ‘BAMF Time’, which slows down time and allows players to dodge bullets and plan their attacks better when the action gets hectic. Driving vehicles is now a first-person affair and players will be able to choose between standard analogue stick movement or point to teleport movement to reduce motion sickness.

While traditionally, Borderlands is best enjoyed in co-op with friends, Borderlands 2 VR will be a single-player experience. As a result, some of the in-game skills have been adjusted, so characters with resurrection abilities will now have self-healing abilities, or skills to deal extra damage.

KitGuru Says: Borderlands 2 VR looks like it could be a lot of fun, although I’ll be waiting for it to land on PC before trying it. Do you guys think Borderlands will work well as a VR game?
