The Valve Index is going to be back in stock today

Last week, we learned that Valve would be ending its long-running drought of VR headset stock, with the Valve Index due to return to the Steam store in limited quantities. Valve has since confirmed exactly when its VR kit will be available to purchase.

In an email sent out to Steam customers, Valve confirms that Index VR kits will be available to purchase today (March 9th) starting at 10 AM PDT. For those of us in the UK, that means you should be able to pick one up through Steam after 5 PM.

As you may expect though, demand is still outstripping supply. Valve warns that it is expecting the Index to sell out once again later today, so the units available won't be up for grabs for long. Purchases made beyond the quantity available will be “fulfilled in the order in which they are received, as supplies increase over the coming months”.

The timing is unfortunate but the coronavirus outbreak has caused complications for many manufacturers and suppliers, causing issues for tech companies all around the world, including other VR headset makers.

KitGuru Says: The Valve Index is going to be the best hardware to use for Half-Life: Alyx but the game will be playable on other headsets too. Were any of you hoping to get an Index in time for Half-Life: Alyx? Or are you going to be playing it on a different VR headset instead?
