GoldenEye 007 announced for Nintendo Switch Online with multiplayer

Nintendo has slowly but surely been filling out its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service with titles from its N64 library. In a surprise announcement, it was revealed that one of the most prolific yet elusive Nintendo 64 titles – GoldenEye 007 – is coming to NSO.

Nintendo recently held its latest Nintendo Direct where the console manufacturer announced (among many other things) that GoldenEye 007 would be joining its Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass service. This is especially notable due to the fact that the iconic game is based on the James Bond 007 IP, meaning the title is tied up in all kinds of different licensing agreements. This is doubly confused by the fact that the game’s development studio, Rare, is now owned by Microsoft/Xbox.

Fans of this 1997 FPS game will no doubt therefore be excited by the announcement that GoldenEye 007 is finally coming to Switch via NSO, meaning that the multiplayer title will also offer online play – an impossibility back in 1997 on the N64.

GoldenEye 007 wasn’t the only NSO game revealed, with 9 different titles announced to be coming across 2022 and 2023, namely:

  1. Mario Party – 2022
  2. Pilotwings 64 – 2022
  3. Mario Party 2 – 2022
  4. Pokemon Stadium – 2023
  5. Pokemon Stadium 2 – 2023
  6. Mario Party 3 – 2023
  7. Harvest Moon 64 – Japan Only
  8. Excitebike 64 – 2023
  9. 1080 – 2023
