MSI shows off huge performance gains for Claw handheld with new BIOS and drivers

The MSI Claw didn't blow anyone away with its day-one gaming performance but through new drivers and BIOS updates, the handheld gaming system has improved tremendously, with MSI boasting performance gains up to 150 percent.

The new E1T41IMS.106 BIOS (referred to as 106) and 31.0.101.5445 GPU driver (referred to as 5445) for the MSI Claw have significantly enhanced gaming performance according to MSI's internal tests. One example shown is the game “7 Days to Die” a popular Steam survival game, which has had performance improved by 150 percent since the launch of the Claw. Games like Monster Hunter World and Cyberpunk 2077 also see significant performance gains of over 50 percent. In the image below, you can see a range of MSI's internal benchmarks with the latest BIOS and drivers installed.

If you have an MSI Claw, you should update to the latest BIOS and grab the latest Intel Arc graphics drivers. Once you've installed BIOS 106, you will be able to perform future BIOS updates from within Windows, without the need for a USB drive or a docking station. This will make the updating process easier for all users moving forward, especially those not well versed in PC tinkering.

As one of the first Intel-powered gaming handhelds, and the very first to use Intel's new Meteor Lake CPU, MSI is working closely with Intel on future optimisations to continue to improve the experience for all Claw owners.

KitGuru Says: Gaming PC handhelds are still very new so we expect to see even more improvements on the software side in the months ahead. Microsoft could do with creating a more effective Windows UI for handhelds as well.
