Subnautica 2 has officially sold over 4 million copies in under a week

Following a lengthy development cycle filled with delays, lawsuits and publisher disagreements, Unknown Worlds’ highly-anticipated Subnautica 2 finally launched in Early Access late last week – selling over 1 million copies within hours. Since then, the indie title has only continued to grow, having now surpassed 4 million copies sold in under a week.

As reported by the publication Gematsu, Unknown Worlds have announced that their recently-released Subnautica 2 has officially sold over 4 million copies since its Early Access launch on the 14th of May.

Commenting on this success, the game’s executive producer Fernando Melo wrote: “Seeing millions of players dive into this new world during Early Access has been an incredible moment for the team. Community feedback continues to help shape the future of Subnautica 2, and we’re excited to keep building the experience together with our player.”

Subnautica 4 million

As mentioned, Subnautica 2 saw immediate success upon its launch, selling over 1 million copies in a single hour – pushing this to 2 million by its 12th hour of release.

Considering that the game has been out for less than a week and is already topping 4 million players (not accounting for those on Game Pass), it will be interesting to see how many units it will have surpassed by the time Subnautica 2 leaves Early Access in roughly 2 years’ time.

KitGuru says: Are you one of the 4 million players? If not, what’s stopping you? Will the game hit 10 million before it reaches 1.0? Let us know your thoughts down below.
