Subnautica 2 officially sold over 1 million copies just hours after launch

Subnautica 2 has had a long and arduous development cycle, with delays, legal proceedings and more leading to fears that the sequel might not make it past the finish line. Fortunately, the struggles seem to have been worth it, with Subnautica 2 having now officially launched to huge numbers – already selling over 1 million copies.

In the immediacy following the Early Access launch of Subnautica 2 it was clear that the much-anticipated sequel was a strong performer, quickly surpassing the peak concurrent player count of the first game by a factor of almost 10x.

We’ve now gotten more concrete proof of its success, with the team at Unknown Worlds taking to BlueSky to confirm that “Over 1 million Subnauts have already dived into Subnautica 2. We can't thank you enough for your support!”

Subnautica Million

1 million copies sold is especially impressive considering the fact that the game is available on Xbox Game Pass – meaning the total number of overall players is even greater.

Of course, this is just the start for Subnautica 2, with the game still having its whole Early Access journey ahead of it. It will be interesting to see just how big the game will be by the time it reaches version 1.0.
