While CD Projekt Red had lots of success teaming up with Netflix and Studio Trigger for the Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, they are going in a different direction for the live-action adaptation.
There is a live-action film in the works for Cyberpunk 2077. While the film will be set in the same ‘universe' as the game, it won't directly follow the same events and will likely focus on a different set of characters throughout Night City.
According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures is in charge of making it, along with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who's previous producing credits include Madame Web, Transformers: The Last Knight, Jupiter's Legacy and more.
Speaking on the announcement, CD Projekt Red co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, said: “We’re excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time.”
There is still a wait ahead before we learn more. There will need to be a script and a director first, and then casting, and that's all before production can even begin.
KitGuru Says: This new Cyberpunk film is no doubt years away from release. By that time, maybe CD Projekt Red will be able to share more about its plans for the Cyberpunk sequel.
