Rockstar makes GTA V PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade free

A few years back, Rockstar finally updated GTA V for modern consoles, bringing a 60FPS mode and ray-traced graphics to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Now, with the sequel on the horizon, Rockstar is making the current-gen update for GTA V free for all.

As part of the next GTA Online update, Rockstar has announced that anyone who owns a digital copy of GTA V on Xbox One or PS4 will be able to upgrade to the newer Xbox Series X/S or PS5 version. However, you must be upgrading within the same console family. For instance, you can't have the Xbox One version and upgrade to PS5, or vice versa for PS4 and Xbox Series consoles.

The free upgrade will be available to claim starting from today. Upon upgrading, you'll find the game now runs at higher graphics settings, with the option for 60FPS, as well as newer features like HDR or 3D Audio.

This is all happening just a few months ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6, which launches exclusively for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in November. a PC version of the game is expected a year or so after launch.

KitGuru Says: Personally, I think this upgrade should have been free the whole time but that might just be me. If you've yet to upgrade to the current-gen version of the game, grab it while its free.
