Microsoft officially announces and details Xbox Mythic Achievement

Back in August, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed via Twitter that the console maker was working on a refresh of its Achievements system, revealing that Xbox would soon be getting its own PlayStation Platinum Trophy equivalent. After multiple waves of leaks and teases, Microsoft has officially announced and detailed its brand new Mythic Achievement.

Taking to the Xbox Wire Blog to make the announcement, Microsoft has officially detailed and dated their brand new Achievements overhaul. Available right now for those enrolled into the Xbox Insider program, Mythic Achievements are earned “when you complete all original achievements for a game” – just like PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy.

Despite being decades late to the party, Xbox’s Mythic Achievements have been retroactively applied to all “eligible” games stretching as far back as the Xbox 360; meaning you may already have dozens or even hundreds of ‘Mythics’ depending on your play style.

Alongside this latest addition, Xbox Achievements as a whole are being refreshed somewhat, introducing a new Gaming Tab “where you can see your achievements, track your next Gamerscore milestone badge, and revisit the games you’ve completed” while also highlighting your earned Mythics.

As admitted by the console maker itself, having a Platinum Trophy equivalent has been “one of our most player-requested features” and so it is encouraging to see the functionality finally being added and integrated neatly into the system.
