Outside of Sonic the Hedgehog, the Persona series is probably SEGA’s biggest and most notable, with the franchise seeing particularly strong growth over the past decade or so. With P6 officially being announced back in June as part of the series’ 30th anniversary, SEGA has now offered an updated breakdown of the entire franchise’s sales.
As part of the company’s latest investor report (translated by PersonaCentral), SEGA gave a comprehensive look at the sales performance of the Persona series, revealing some interesting stats.
While it was already confirmed earlier this year that the sub-franchise had sold over 30 million copies across all games + spin-offs, the publisher has now broken down this figure into generations; the sales of which are as follows:
- Persona 3 Series – 5 million (3 million of which is attributed to P3 Reload)
- Persona 4 Series – 5.7 million
- Persona 5 Series – 13 million
While not explicitly stated, this seems to suggest that the original SMT: Persona and P2 have jointly sold around 6 million copies. Regardless, as can be seen from the data, Persona 5 is where the series really blew up in popularity. In fact, according to the report the total lifetime sales for the franchise doubled in between the years 2020-2024.
Perhaps the most interesting revelation however was the fact that almost half of Persona’s entire sales have come from North America, with the regional breakdown being as follows:
- NA – 40%
- Europe – 20%
- Japan – 20%
- Asia – 20%
All this is to say that Persona is currently bigger than it has ever been. With P4 Revival arriving early in 2027, and P6 coming sometime following it (launching across all platforms simultaneously), it will be interesting to see how much further the sub-franchise will grow over the coming years.
