ATLUS explains why it recast everyone in Persona 4 Revival

Set to arrive early next year, there is a great deal of hype and excitement surrounding ATLUS’s upcoming Personal 4 Revival remake. While much of what has been shown so far appears positive, fans have expressed disappointment with the announcement that the entire English voice cast have been replaced. Justifying the decision, ATLUS have now explained why.

Taking part in an interview with the publication GamesRadar+ during Gamescom 2026, Persona producer Kazuhisa Wada explained why the studio opted to replace the English cast for this remake, stating (via a translator):

“The original game was originally recorded for the English cast, specifically, a long, long time ago” adding that many “are no longer in the industry” or were “really hard to lock down” due to their risen popularity.

Wada continued, “So we realized we can't re-gather that whole cast. So we're like, ‘OK, I guess we have to kind of once again roll up our sleeves. Alright, let's start over. Let's get a whole new cast in and let's do our best.’”

For the uninitiated, Persona 4 Golden featured many high profile voice actors, including but not limited to Yuri Lowenthal; Troy Baker and Laura Bailey.

While it was disappointing to hear that the original cast wouldn’t be returning to P4’s revival, the explanation does make a great deal of sense. Hopefully the new voice actors are able to capture the spirit of these characters.
