Live-Action Far Cry TV Show has officially started filming in Spain

While we have heard little in the way of official information when it comes to Ubisoft’s next Far Cry game, the publisher did announce last year that they had greenlit a live-action TV show adaptation based on the popular open-world FPS franchise. Set to be released via the distribution company FX, filming for the first Season has now officially commenced.

Taking to Instagram, Cinematographer Polly Morgan confirmed that filming for the previously-announced Far Cry show has officially begun, sharing an image of the production’s Clapperboard alongside the caption “This is fun 🙂 #farcry @noahhawley.”

Noah Hawley, for the uninitiated, is serving as Far Cry’s director and has worked on a number of well-regarded shows, including Alien: Earth and the anthology series Fargo. The latter of the two is of particular note due to the fact that the Far Cry show has been confirmed to also take on an anthology-like format – with each Season featuring “a different cast and setting.”

For the moment at least, filming for the first Season is taking place in Spain, giving some idea as to which of the 6 mainline entries the show will take inspiration from.

Back when the project was first announced, it was revealed that Rob Mac (formerly McElhenney) of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Mythic Quest fame would be serving as co-creator and executive producer; while also starring in the show (though his role has not been revealed).

Speaking on the adaptation at the time, Mac claimed that “Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support.”

While the Far Cry games are not known for their narratives, each entry has managed to give us some pretty iconic villains, and so it will be interesting to see what aspect of the games FX chooses to focus on.
