After laying dormant for a decade, the Silent Hill franchise is officially back and bigger than ever. With the most recent release ‘Silent Hill f’ continuing to find new audiences, Bloober Team’s excellent Silent Hill 2 Remake has reached a massive milestone – officially surpassing 5 million total players.
Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Silent Hill page revealed that over 5 million people have played the latest remake from Bloober Team, writing: “The fog's reach grows ever greater, and a timeless story continues to find new minds to echo through. SILENT HILL 2 celebrates 5 million units worldwide!”
As always, 5 million players does not equate to 5 million copies sold, with Konami stating that this latest figure includes “units shipped, store downloads and subscription services.”
This is worthy of note as Silent Hill 2 Remake was added to PlayStation Plus Extra back in October of last year (on the 21st to be specific) just days after confirming that the title had SOLD 2.5 million copies.
Regardless of whether it was through direct purchases or PlayStation Plus however, Silent Hill is in a strong place right now. It will be interesting to see whether the remake eventually outsells the entire rest of the franchise’s previous output.
