Sony patents dual shock move controller

A new patent has been published, that seems to suggest Sony is looking to create a new type of controller that combines its traditional dual analogue stick setup, with twin motion move peripherals. While functionally it could be interesting, it looks pretty dumb.

It seems like the controller will be able to split in two for motion control sections of a game and snapped back together for when traditional controls are necessary. The patent calls it a “hybrid separable motion controller.”

As well as looking a bit different with its elongated hang grips and more rounded corners than a standard PlayStation controller, it also contains some extra internal hardware. Within there's a speaker, magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope and a standard vibration function. According to TheSixthAxis, the orbs light up too.

A camera will be a must, for Move Motion tracking but it's not clear whether this is designed for the PS3 or PS4. The patent, while only being published now, was originally filed back in May 2011.
