Tesco show cheap 7 inch tablet, the £119 Hudl

Tesco have unveiled their super cheap 7 inch tablet, which will retail in the UK for only £119. Tesco said it would only cost £60 if bought via the supermarkets loyalty points scheme.

The Hudl has a quad core processor, 16gb of built in storage and a 2MP front and 3MP rear mounted camera system. They are offering the product in four colours – black, blue, red and purple. The screen resolution is set at 1400×900 with a 237 ppi density.

Interestingly the device also has a ‘Tesco launcher' button to give direct access to the online grocery shopping system and other facilities from Tesco such as banking, clothing and mobile phone services.

Tesco's are aiming the low cost tablet at families who can't afford more expensive models from the likes of Apple. Tesco Chief Executive Phil Clarke said at the launch event in London yesterday “We feel the time is right for Tesco to help widen tablet ownership and bring the fun, convenience and excitement of tablets to even more customers.”

While tablets are now immensely popular in the UK only one quarter of households actually have one.

The Hudi is more expensive than the Amazon Kindle Fire – which is selling for £99, but it has less memory, a slower processor and no camera.
