Acer debuts world-first USB Type-C equipped display

USB Type-C is an exciting development for those who have spent years reversing and then re-reversing USB cables and sticks, trying to find the correct way to plug them in. While its reversible nature is exciting of course, USB Type-C's support for USB 3.1's 10Gbps bandwidth is even more so, which means Acer's new H7 monitors are capable of acting as a giant screen for another device, like a smartphone.

Things get even more interesting if you have a Windows Phone, as in essence you can have a full desktop PC with just those two pieces of kit (thanks Engadget). The H7 is also equipped with enough USB ports to let you connect up a keyboard and mouse, meaning you could use your smartphone as your only PC, using it as a mobile handset while out and about and then when at your desk, as your main PC.

Of course performance won't be quite that of a desktop, but considering the display is far from expensive at $500 (£340) for the 25 inch model and a compatible smartphone isn't much more, that's quite an affordable way to have a very portable system.

While the 27 inch version will likely be a bit more expensive, both support 2,560 x 1,440 resolutions, and also have HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort connectors for additional hook ups.

Both versions of the new Acer H7 will be available some time in February.
