PlayStation’s ‘Play at Home’ initiative returns, offering a free game to everyone

Last year, in order to entice PlayStation owners to stay home and help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Sony announced its ‘Play at Home’ initiative, which gave all PlayStation users Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey entirely for free. This year, with COVID-19 still a global threat, PlayStation is once again bringing back this initiative.

Making the announcement on its blog, PlayStation said “The past 12 months haven’t been easy. And I think we’re all hopeful that we may be starting to see some flickers of light at the end of this long COVID-19 tunnel thanks to the tireless work of the medical community and people around the world.”

They continued, “In these historic times, the team at PlayStation wanted to thank the community by giving something back. These days, we could all use something to look forward to and another reason to stay safely socially distanced, so we are happy to be able to offer a free selection of great games and some entertainment offers.”

This year from the 1st of March, all PlayStation owners will be able to get their hands on Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank for PS4, the remake/reimagining of the PS2 classic. This will be available to purchase for free until the 1st of April – though once purchased, it will remain in your library forever.

On top of this, from the 25th of March, PlayStation owners will be able to get over 3 months of free access to the anime streaming service ‘Funimation’. The service offers a 14 day free trial, but PlayStation owners can get an extra 90 days on top of that for a total of 104 days of free anime streaming.

This is not all. According to PlayStation “What we outlined today is just the beginning of what’s in store for Play At Home. In the coming weeks, we’ll share more details on free games and entertainment offers dropping for our PlayStation community.”

In the wake of the current state of the world, it is nice to see PlayStation offering some respite from all of the negativity surrounding most of the world right now.
