Early Core i5-12400F benchmarks show parity with AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

Intel has yet to announce its non-K 12th Gen Core processors, but benchmarks are already starting to come through. The first early Core i5-12400F benchmarks point to Ryzen 5 5600X-level performance for gaming and productivity when paired with DDR5 memory.

The guys at Comptoir Hardware (via @davideneco25320) appear to have access to an engineering sample of the Core i5-12400F, allowing them to test it and compare its results with other modern CPUs. This model is said to feature 6x P-cores and 12x threads that boost up to 4.4GHz and feature a 65W TDP. The system equipped with the i5-12400F was running Windows 11 and using DDR5 memory (presumably 5200MT/s) and a Radeon RX 6900XT.

In the productivity benchmark test suite, which includes 7-Zip, Visual Studio, Blender, Light Room, After Effects, Vegas Pro and many other production apps, the Core i5-12400F was just 3% slower than the Ryzen 5 5600X on average, but a significant 31% slower than the Core i5-12600K. In its gaming benchmark suite, featuring Anno 1800, Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Far Cry 6 and many other games, the i5-12400F was extremely similar to the Ryzen 5 5600X but lost to the i5-12600K by 9%. All these results were achieved with a rated power consumption of 135W, about the same as the Ryzen 5 5600X.

The Intel Core i5-12400F is expected to release in January 2022 for less than £200, making it a very promising mid-range CPU, based on these results.
