Intel Core i7-12700H breaks 10K in Geekbench 5 multi-core benchmark

We're starting to get a look at Intel Core i7-12700H performance, as the first Geekbench 5 benchmark results have been revealed. In the single-core test, the Alder Lake Core i7 CPU couldn't outperform the Core i7-11800H, but the multi-core benchmark shows what we expect from a generational leap.

Looking at the Geekbench 5 entry found by @Benchleaks, the Core i7-12700H will come with the same core configuration as the i9-12900HK, packing 6x P-cores and 8x E-cores, for a total of 20x threads. The base clock frequency seems to be set at 2.7GHz, boosting up to 4.6GHz when needed. The system was a Gigabyte Aero 5 XE packing 32GB of DDR4-2666 memory.

In the single-core test, Intel's upcoming i7 mobile CPU scored 1340, which is 9% slower than the Tiger Lake Core i7-11800H. Although we can't confirm it, the low frequency of the DDR4 might be at fault here. However, when comparing the multi-core scores of both processors, the i7-12700H is 28.5% faster than its predecessor.

We also decided to put these scores side-by-side with AMD's counterpart, the Ryzen 7 5800H. While single-core results are about the same, their multi-core results also differ significantly, with the i7 processor scoring 37% higher than AMD's CPU. Intel Alder Lake mobile processors are expected to be announced during CES 2022 in January.

KitGuru says: We're seeing strong multi-core performance already, but it looks like single-core performance could be improved. Are any of you waiting to upgrade to a new laptop? Are you waiting for new CPUs to come in early 2022 before making the jump?
