Ubisoft delays ‘The Settlers’ reboot once again

Back in 2018, Ubisoft announced plans to bring back ‘The Settlers’ with a new, modern day version of the RTS. Initially, we were expecting to see it release in 2019, but it was pushed back to 2020. Then, in 2020, the game was delayed until 2022 and now, just weeks before the planned launch, Ubisoft has delayed the game once again.

The Settlers is in development at Ubisoft studio, Blue Byte. Over the course of development, the studio has been receiving feedback from players and undergoing private playtests. Following previous delays, The Settlers reboot was due to launch on the 17th of March but now just weeks ahead of that date, Ubisoft has announced yet another delay due to recent closed beta feedback.

The Settlers is delayed indefinitely once again following the latest round of playtests. In a statement on Twitter, the developers wrote: “The recent closed beta was a great opportunity for all participating players to share valuable feedback regarding the current state of the game and we'd like to thank you for your involvement”.

“As we went through this feedback, it became clear to our team that the quality wasn't yet in line with the team's vision. Therefore, we took the decision to postpone the launch of the game to a later date”.

The Settlers is amongst several other key projects that keep suffering from delays under Ubisoft. New Free to Play titles and updates to live service titles, like The Division 2, have faced delays, as have major titles like Skull & Bones. Recent reports indicate that Ubisoft's release schedule for the next two years is looking very light, in part due to a lack of mainline Assassin's Creed game this year.

KitGuru Says: The Settlers has not been cancelled but given the number of delays over the past four years, we wouldn't be surprised to see Ubisoft scrap the idea.
