Kingdom Hearts 4 is being developed with Unreal Engine 5

Over the weekend as part of the Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary celebration, Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts 4, promising a new adventure with Sora and some returning characters. While the trailer looked good, it was entirely cinematic, as the game is still in the early stages of development.

During the initial announcement, Square Enix did not share any release date information, or even the platforms the game will be available on. However, the publisher did clarify in a press release (via Gameradar) that the game is in “early development”. Previously, Kingdom Hearts 3 went into early development in 2013 but did not release until 2019. With that in mind, it could be quite some time before this game is ready to show again.

With Kingdom Hearts 3, the development team switched to Unreal Engine 4, rather than using Square Enix's in-house tools. That will be continuing with Kingdom Hearts 4, which will be developed with Unreal Engine 5, as reported by Famitsu.

Given everything we know about the game so far, we can assume that Kingdom Hearts 4 will be coming to current-gen consoles only, skipping over the Xbox One and PS4 generation. Now that the entire Kingdom Hearts series is now available on PC, this sequel should be heading our way too.

KitGuru Says: Did many of you watch the Kingdom Hearts 4 announcement over the weekend? Given Square Enix's track record, how long do you expect this game to be in development for?

KitGuru Games: Corporate nonsense has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy as game removed from over 170 countries

It tends to take a lot for gamers to 'forgive' a studio after messing up a launch, for instance CD Projekt Red had to spend three additional years developing Cyberpunk 2077 before many were willing to give the game another shot. In the case of Helldivers 2, despite the game having some rough server issues at launch, the game turned out to be so good that many players simply waited things out, without leaving a trail of negative reviews. Now, a case of incredibly poor communication and a poorly thought-out plan from the game's publisher, Sony, has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy, with the game being removed from over 170 countries.
