The Last of Us: No Return detailed in new trailer

The announcement of The Last of Us Part II Remastered came with a surprising number of new included features. Among them was the ‘No Return’ game mode – a rogue-like which will offer highly replayable levels using Part II’s excellent gameplay loop. Ahead of the title’s launch early next year, a new dedicated trailer has been released.

Releasing a dedicated ‘No Return’ trailer, Naughty Dog have gone in-depth into the rogue-like and its mechanics, saying “Survive as long as you can in each run, as you choose your path through a series of randomized encounters featuring different foes and memorable locations from throughout Part II, all culminating in tense boss battles.”

As could be seen from the trailer, No Return will include unique gameplay modifiers, offering “new and unexpected challenges as you fight to succeed – and survive – in a host of different encounter types.”

While we still do not have a full list of playable characters, Naughty Dog did confirm that at least half a dozen familiar faces will be included, namely Ellie, Abby, Dina, Jesse, Lev and Tommy – with “more” said to be featured (while not confirmed, Joel will almost certainly be playable).

Finally, we also got a look at some new skins which will be unlockable, including a sleek futuristic suit for Ellie. The Last of Us Part II Remastered will launch on the 19th of January 2024, with pre-orders going live today.
