PlayStation 5 has officially sold over 75 million units

The PlayStation 5 generation has been an interesting one for Sony. Released during the heights of the COVID pandemic, the console maker struggled to meet the strong levels of demand for the PS5 – with the shortage remaining for almost 3 years. That said, since then sales have more than recovered, with the PS5 now officially selling over 75 million units.

As part of the company’s latest fiscal earnings report, Sony officially confirmed that the PS5 has reached a new major milestone – selling over 75 million units since its launch in late 2020.

Despite the aforementioned years of supply chain issues, sales for Sony’s latest and greatest system have managed to catch up to that of the PS4, falling behind by just 1.7 million units when launch-aligned.

Million PS5

Given the fact that the PS5 has yet to receive a permanent price drop, its continued and increasing sales success is notable.

It will be interesting to see how many units the system will have sold when all is said and done – and whether it will surpass the PS4 to become the 5th best-selling console of all time.

KitGuru says: When did you pick up a PS5? Will the current system outsell the PS4 eventually? What do you think the system’s sales figures will look like by its end-of-life? Let us know down below.
