Tetris Effect studio announces Lumines Arise

Tetris Effect is one of the most engaging games in recent history, taking the scientifically addictive and satisfying time-based puzzle stylings of the original game and expanding upon it with beautiful music, mesmerising visuals and engaging feedback. Developed by Enhance, the team are now tackling another classic puzzler with Lumines Arise.

Announced during the most recent PlayStation State of Play (and expanded upon via a blog post), Takashi Ishihara – the director at Enhance – officially unveiled their next project: Lumines Arise, writing:

“Life is rhythmic. It has a pulse. We, as living beings, experience highs and lows. Sometimes together, other times alone. Games have the power to tap directly into that rhythm, stimulating all your senses to put you into a flow state. Everything around you disappears, and you fall into the game’s world. When this happens, it’s a magical feeling that can stir powerful emotions within you. You’re going to feel that in spades with Lumines Arise.”

For the uninitiated, Lumines was a PlayStation Portable puzzler which takes clear inspiration from Tetris (with its block-styled gameplay and mechanics) while switching the formula to its side and adding a more direct rhythmic requirement.

Given its similarities to Tetris, having Enhance reimagine Lumines as they did with Tetris Effect feels like the perfect combination of developer and IP.

Arriving later this year in the Fall, Lumines Arise is coming to PS5 and PSVR2 – with a demo scheduled for some time this Summer.
