AMD announces Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition CPU – the first with dual 3D V-Cache

For months now, we have heard rumours about AMD experimenting with dual 3D V-Cache designs for a new CPU. Now, AMD has quietly announced exactly that, with the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition CPU being the first chip to combine two stacks of 3D V-Cache across two CCDs. 

The CPU was announced quietly through a video on AMD's YouTube channel which you can watch below:

Together, the dual 3D V-Cache stacks provide 208MB of high-speed on-chip cache, the most ever put into a Ryzen processor. The additional cache means more game data and more assets can sit right next to the CPU cores, providing speedy access with dramatically reduced latency. This should lead to performance improvements in both gaming and content creation tasks, but AMD says it will “really shine” in other demanding workflows like simulations, 3D rendering, large software builds, AI models, and game engine compiles.

The press release gives a bit more detail on this, saying that the new CPU will deliver up to 10% performance gains over the current Ryzen 9 9950X3D across creative workloads like DaVinci Resolve, Blender, and large-scale source code builds like Unreal Engine and Chromium.

As you would expect based on the CPU's name, the chip does have 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, but with an expanded 200W TDP. The boost clock speed is listed at up to 5.6GHz on the CPU's official product page.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition will be available starting on the 22nd of April.
