TMNT: The Last Ronin is now being developed by PlatinumGames

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is one of the most beloved graphic novels from the TMNT universe, telling the story of a sole remaining turtle brother “seeking justice for the family he lost” in a “future, battle-ravaged New York City”. Initially announced back in 2023, the project has finally gotten its first proper details, including confirmation that it is being developed by the studio behind the likes of Bayonetta, NieR: Automata and Vanquish – PlatinumGames.

Making the official announcement during Summer Game Fest, the recently-established Paramount Games shared a first look at TMNT: The Last Ronin. Serving more as a cinematic teaser, the main piece of news from the reveal was the confirmation that the project is being developed by PlatinumGames.

While an exciting prospect given the studio’s penchant for releasing titles with fun and excellent gameplay, it appears as though the project underwent some internal changes.

Back in 2023 during the game’s reveal trailer, it was announced that The Last Ronin was being developed by Black Forest Games and would be published by THQ Nordic. Since then, things have changed quite a bit, with the aforementioned Paramount Games Studios being established, folding Skydance into it.

What this means for TMNT: The Last Ronin is unknown, with no release date nor a release window being provided – meaning we are in the same position which we were back in 2023. Still, having PlatinumGames tied to the project should hopefully mean that gameplay-wise, The Last Ronin will be top-tier (and given that the graphic novel is already celebrated, its narrative should also be solid). All that said, we will likely have to wait quite a while to find out.
