Netflix are making a live-action Persona adaptation

Netflix is no stranger to adaptations, with the streaming giant having produced a number of shows tied to video game properties, from the animated Devil May Cry to the live-action Witcher. Even so, this latest announcement comes as a bit of a surprise, with Netflix reportedly working on a live-action Persona show.

As reported by the publication Variety, Netflix and SEGA have struck a deal to produce a live-action adaptation based on their popular JRPG series Persona. While plot details remain under wraps, we have gotten a decent look at who is involved in the project, with Christopher Monfette serving as showrunner, writer and executive producer.

As a writer, Monfette is known best for his work on the dystopian sci-fi show ‘12 Monkeys’, a couple episodes of Star Trek Picard and 9 episodes of the medical drama 9-1-1.

Other names attached (as executive producers) include Shawn Levy [Night at the Museum trilogy and Free Guy] and Dmitri M. Johnson [Sonic films and the upcoming Tomb Raider / Life is Strange].

Given Netflix’s history with animated adaptations of games, it is somewhat odd to see them opting for the live-action route. It could wind up like the early seasons of The Witcher, or it could falter like their live-action Death Note. We will have to wait and see. Either way, it’ll be curious to learn which of Persona’s games they will opt to adapt.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? Would you rather they have gone the animated route (similar to the already-existing anime)? Which Persona game has the best vibe in your opinion? Let us know down below.
