Pokémon Pokopia becomes Koei Tecmo’s best-selling game of all time

The Pokémon series remains one of the most successful media franchises of all time, with pretty much any and all games released being a success in one form or another – regardless of quality. That said, in a moment of celebration, the highly-praised Pokémon Pokopia has managed to be both a critical and commercial success, currently sitting as Koei Tecmo’s best-selling game of all time.

Making the official announcement via a press release, Nintendo / The Pokémon Company revealed that Pokémon Pokopia (which launched on the 5th of March) has already hit a major sales milestone, having “surpassed 5 million units across physical and digital versions, just over four months after its launch.”

For a Pokémon game, this may seem somewhat quaint, with the relatively maligned Pokémon Legends Z-A selling over 5.8 million copies in its first week. That said, for a Switch 2 exclusive developed by Omega Force, 5 million in 4 months is massive – marking the best-selling game of all time for the studio (and Koei Tecmo as a whole).

While it has not been updated in a few years, based on public data, the previous record holder went to another Nintendo-published title: Fire Emblem: Three Houses (which sold around 4.1 million copies).

What this means for the future of Omega Force / Koei Tecmo is unknown. That said, hopefully the success of Pokopia affords the team more time and budget to work on their future projects.
