The Witcher 4 to launch in 2028

Half a decade on from their last release in the form of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red appear to be getting ready to drop multiple titles back-to-back over the next few years. Alongside the arrival of Songs of the Past some time in 2027, CDPR have now confirmed that The Witcher 4 will follow it up in 2028.

Taking to their socials to release a short video, CDPR’s Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski reiterated the fact that the team will have a big presence at the upcoming 2026 edition of Gamescom, stating:

“I wanted to invite you to watch Opening Night Live, and come visit us on the Gamescom show floor […] The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. We have a lot of the expansion to show off, including a taste of its dark story, and the new content it will bring.”

As mentioned, it was already previously confirmed that Songs of the Past would be at Gamescom in one form or another. In an unexpected move however, CDPR also spoke briefly about The Witcher 4. While it will not be present at Gamescom, Nowakowski did give some small nuggets of information, describing the title as “our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date” – confirming that it will launch in 2028.

Given that aspects of Songs of the Past are meant to tie directly into The Witcher 4, having the two release close together does make sense. Whether CD Projekt Red will be able to pull it off however (in a bug-free manner no less), we will have to wait and see.
