State of Play returns this week with new PS5 announcements

Sony has announced that State of Play will return this week, and this time the company is airing two broadcasts back‑to‑back, offering updates from PlayStation Studios alongside a dedicated showcase for Japanese and Asian developers.

State of Play is Sony’s regular broadcast for new trailers and announcements heading to PlayStation platforms. Shows typically run for 20 to 40 minutes with non-stop trailers and very little downtime. This week’s event will be split into two parts, the main State of Play, followed immediately by a Japan‑focused stream.

The main State of Play will air on September 3rd, starting at 6am PT / 9am ET / 3pm CEST / 10pm JST. Sony says the broadcast will feature updates from PlayStation Studios and third‑party partners, concluding with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in Square Enix’s FF7 Remake trilogy.

Once the main show wraps, Sony will transition straight into State of Play Japan, hosted once again by Yuki Kaji. This second broadcast will offer deeper dives into upcoming titles from studios across Japan and Asia, including new gameplay segments and fresh announcements. The main State of Play will air in English with Japanese subtitles, while State of Play Japan will air in Japanese with English subtitles.

Considering the name, I'd expect we'll see more of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen from Capcom during the State of Play Japan stream.

KitGuru Says: Aside from Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we can expect Wolverine to be a significant part of this week's showcase. The game is just one month away from release after all, and after mixed reception to gameplay previews, Sony is going to need to start generating some more positive word of mouth.
