Sony is reportedly reviving Killzone

Sony has spent years trying to force new live‑service games into its first‑party lineup, leading to short‑lived projects like Concord and cancelled multiplayer spin‑offs for God of War and The Last of Us. Now, Sony finally appears to be turning its multiplayer efforts toward a franchise that actually makes sense – Killzone.

According to a new report from MP1st, a new Killzone game is in the very early stages of development. Guerrilla Games is said to be overseeing the project, while an external studio handles the bulk of development work. This setup should allow Guerrilla to continue focusing on its other ongoing titles, including Horizon Hunters Gathering, a project currently eating up most of Guerrilla's resources, leading to a lengthy delay for Horizon 3.

Killzone built up a respectable following during the mid‑2000s, but the series was eventually overshadowed by Halo and Call of Duty. The last major entry, Killzone: Shadow Fall, launched alongside the PS4 back in 2013. While the game received positive reviews and maintained an active multiplayer community for years, Sony ultimately left the franchise dormant for more than a decade.

For now, we don't know who Sony has seemingly partnered up with for the Killzone revival. However, People Can Fly, the studio behind Outriders, was previously announced as collaborating with Sony on a new project for an existing PlayStation franchise, so Killzone could very well be that secret game.

KitGuru Says: Killzone returning makes far more sense than some of Sony's other live-service bets in recent years. While prior titles were a little more single-player focused, I would expect a revamped Killzone to have more of a multiplayer focus to it.
