Xbox’s Platinum Trophy equivalent will reportedly be called ‘Mythic’ Achievements

Ever since the appointment of Asha Sharma as the new CEO of Xbox, we’ve seen the console maker engage in a number of rapid changes – from the rebranding of the company’s logo to the all-capitalisation of ‘XBOX’. Following in this theme, Sharma confirmed last month that the company was working on a refresh of its Achievement system; bringing in a PlayStation ‘Platinum Trophy’ equivalent. While yet to be officially detailed, it appears as though Xbox will be receiving its new ‘Mythic’ Achievement system sooner rather than later.

As discovered by known Xbox completionist ‘Stallion83’ it appears as though Microsoft has finalised the name for its Platinum Trophy equivalent, with a new ‘Mythic Achievement’ listing popping up when filtering through their achievements.

For context, back in early August, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma responded to one user on Twitter who asked “When you gonna solve the Platinum trophy equivalent with Achievements?” by stating that the “team is working on something for later this year!”

While Xbox themselves helped to popularise the notion of achievements in video games, PlayStation’s invention of their Trophy system improved greatly on the formula; particularly with their Platinum Trophies marking a game’s 100% completion.

How exactly this new Mythic Achievement will work remains to be seen. Will they keep their 1000 Gamerscore system, simply awarding those who obtain all achievements a bonus icon? Will the system be entirely revamped with Bronze, Silver, Gold and Mythic medals? Will this new system work retroactively with older titles? We will hopefully won’t have to wait too long to find out.
