Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor / War duology comes to Nintendo Switch 2 next week

Since the sequel system’s launch last year, the Nintendo Switch 2 has seen a great deal of 3rd party titles from across generations being ported over to the handheld-hybrid. Joining this ever-growing list, studio Aspyr has now announced that the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor / War duology will officially land on the Switch 2 next week.

Making the surprise announcement, known porting studio Aspyr released a new trailer for the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle, confirming that Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are set to come to the Nintendo Switch 2 next week: officially launching on the 30th of September.

Initially released in 2014 and 2017 respectively, Shadow of Mordor / War were two of the best games set in Tolkien's iconic Lord of the Rings universe – featuring semi-open world exploration; fun combat; satisfying traversal and of course, the patented Nemesis System.

While the latter of the two was criticised at launch for its microtransactions, later updates would remove the functionality, bringing the experience closer to that of 2014’s Mordor.

As of now, technical details for these ports have not been shared, with the trailer released being published at 1080p 60FPS (though the game itself appears to be locked to 30FPS).

It is also worth noting that while Aspyr have a great deal of experience porting last-gen games to Nintendo’s platforms, recent releases have been far from perfect – with the likes of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition suffering from a plethora of visual downgrades, even compared to its original PS3 incarnation.

That said, if you did want to give these ports a go, both Shadow of Mordor / War are currently running a promotion for 50% off, letting you nab Shadow of Mordor for just $9.99 and its sequel for $24.99. Luckily, the sale will persist until the 6th of October, meaning you can wait until it's officially out to see whether either title is worth picking up on the platform.
