GTA 6 pre-orders are breaking records according to Xbox CSO

We've already heard some impressive stats around GTA 6 pre-orders, and the game has continued to climb up charts as we get closer to November. While we already expected the majority of copies sold to be on PlayStation, simply due to the PS5 being the market leader, Xbox has now confirmed that the game is ‘breaking records' on their side too. 

Sony won't be the only one to benefit from the GTA 6 launch. Recently, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer, Matthew Ball, shared online that the Xbox team is “very happy with GTA 6 pre-orders”, adding that the title is “breaking records for Xbox” and they expect “even more records will be broken throughout the Fall”.

That's not to say that Xbox is the leading sales platform. Ball also added that their data shows that the Xbox share of pre-orders is “matching” their share of the console market. The comments were made in response to a report from The Verge that devs were “concerned” about the game's performance on the Xbox platform.

Unfortunately, we don't know how much of a share Microsoft actually has, because Microsoft no longer reports hardware sales numbers. However, the wide belief is that there have been at least 30 million Xbox Series X/S consoles sold so far this generation.
