Naughty Dog confirms plans for new Last of Us games

Naughty Dog closed out this year’s Last of Us Day with a studio update from Neil Druckmann, confirming that multiple new projects are in early development, including new stories set within The Last of Us universe.

In a blog post celebrating The Last of Us Day, Naughty Dog's annual community event similar to BioWare’s N7 Day, Druckmann thanked fans for their continued support and shared a brief look at what the team is working on. He confirmed that Naughty Dog currently has “a couple of very exciting new projects” in early stages, marking the first time in years the studio has openly acknowledged multiple active developments.

Crucially, Druckmann says both projects will “expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II”. That phrasing suggests new characters, new timelines or new regions, and it also sets expectations that future Last of Us stories may move away from the arcs of Ellie, Abby and other central characters from the first two games. Druckmann reiterated that the studio would only return to the series if it had “something meaningful to say”, adding that these new stories are worth telling.

Druckmann also addressed the status of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog’s new sci‑fi IP first teased almost two years ago. The team is currently “heads down” on what he describes as the studio’s most ambitious game yet. Naughty Dog plans to remain quiet for the rest of 2026, with a full reveal now scheduled for 2027, when the studio will finally showcase Intergalactic properly.
