Kena: Scars of Kosmora officially delayed to 2027

Kena: Bridge of Spirits was the impressive debut title from studio Ember Lab. Released back in 2021 for PlayStation and PC, the game resonated with many thanks to its gorgeous visuals, fun combat and overall vibes. Though a sequel was officially announced back in February alongside a 2026 release year, a lack of updates led many to wonder whether the title had been delayed. The team have now confirmed as much, with Kena: Scars of Kosmora now set to arrive in 2027.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog to offer their first update in a while, the team at Ember Lab shared a number of new story details, concept art, and other ancillary facts pertaining to the upcoming Kena: Scars of Kosmora.

While an overall welcome update, the primary announcement came in the form of confirmation that Kena: Scars of Kosmora will not be hitting its 2026 release target, with Ember Lab writing:

“Since our announcement trailer in February, we’ve been heads down bringing Kena: Scars of Kosmora to the finish line. It’s been exciting to see all the anticipation and passion from fans. We can’t wait to share a new installment of Kena’s story with you!”

They continued, “At the same time, we want to deliver a top-notch game that exceeds the quality we achieved with our 2021 debut, Bridge of Spirits, and at a much bigger scale. To do that we need just a bit more time. Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver.”

For the uninitiated, Ember Lab started its life as an animation studio, known best at the time for the viral Majora’s Mask fan-film ‘Terrible Fate’. It wasn’t until the success of Kena: Bridge of Spirits in 2021 that the studio decided to embrace game dev full-time.

Given this, it is understandable that the team might be running into some issues timeline-wise. Regardless, based on the quality of their first game, it’s safe to say that Kena: Scars of Kosmora will be worth the wait – whenever it arrives.
