Blender 3.0 update brings significant performance boost to rendering on Intel and AMD systems

Last month, Blender received a major update, bringing the software up to version 3.0 and packing some major improvements. In recent weeks, we've noticed some big performance gains while rendering using both AMD and Intel processors, cutting rendering time down considerably.

With Blender 3.0, the developers re-wrote GPU kernels and scheduling, and also brought feature parity between AMD and Nvidia GPUs. The team also made changes to tiles and memory usage to improve performance.

As you can see in our screenshots above, using both an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and an Intel Core i9-12900K, rendering times have greatly improved, with 45 seconds being knocked off for our Intel system and 50 seconds being knocked off on our AMD system while going through the Classroom rendering test.

While the Blender 3.0 patch notes do note changes made to GPU performance, they do not detail any changes made to improve/optimise CPU usage, You can check the full patch notes for Blender 3.0, HERE.
